OTHER: The Red Yucca is an heirloom succulent plant native to South Texas & parts of Mexico. It is an evergreen beauty who can thrive in harsh desert conditions like extreme heat, sun, & drought, BUT it is also extremely cold hardy & will excel in gardens down to Zone 5 as long as it has good drainage. The plants have long skinny grass-like leaves that grow in clumps, but unlike their cousins, the Red Yucca does NOT have spines. The red tubular flowers bloom on tall spikes that are held high above the foliage, & they will attract bees, butterflies, & HUMMINGBIRDS to your garden. The Red Yucca has a very long bloom time, blooming twice in a season in cooler northern climates, & nearly year-round in warmer climates. OTHER: ‘Red Noodle’ is a vining heirloom bean whose pods are actually 1 1/2 feet long, not a yard, but they can grow as much as 1" in a day! While Yard Long Beans have become a popular market variety in the US, the Red variety is not always easy to come by, so is a great selection to grow at home.
The stringless edible pods are crisp & tender, & are best steamed, sautéed, or fried, especially stir fries. The dark red pods will keep their color when cooked, & can add a lot of fun to your dishes. They are popular in Southern Asian & Chinese cuisine. The nutritious beans have a wonderful sweet nutty flavor, & can also be used dried.
This vine is actually considered a subtropical plant, so grows very well in hot & humid areas & isn’t afraid of the sun. They grow just fine in cooler Northern climates too, continuing to produce until frost. These vines send additional runners off the top & sides, adding to this prolific plant’s high yield. These open pollinated plants are disease resistant.

This Stonecrop can be used as a groundcover, an alpine & rock garden plant, as a border, or in a container. Whichever you choose, you will want to plant it somewhere you will get to see it beautiful rosettes & lovely flower clusters that attract bees & butterflies.
Aside from being grown as a nice ornamental plant, Roseroot is also grown for its root’s medicinal properties. Its yellow roots are rose-scented, hence the name, & have long been used in traditional medicine. From Wikipedia: “About 140 chemical compounds are in the subterranean portions of R. rosea. Mammoth Gold typically weighs in between 40- 60 lbs at maturity, but with a little extra tlc can reach up to 100 lbs! These pumpkins average 18-24” long and wide, and are mostly round. OTHER: The Japanese Raisin Tree is ornamental & produces edible pear flavored fruit. This Asian native also has traditional medicinal uses. The trees hard wood is used for lots of things from building construction to fine furniture, & burns slowly so is good for fires. Raisin Trees have big glossy leaves that measure up to 6" long, & large fragrant clusters of flowers. The flowers are replaced by small edible fruit that is also fragrant.
