OTHER: Sedum is an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, or as a groundcover. They are a succulent, and tolerate dryness & heat. Sedum is not picky about the soil it will grow in and will tolerate just about any soil or sand. As you can see from the photos, this variety goes through quite a few different looks in one season. The foliage starts out a lovely bluish green and changes to bluish silver in the summer months in addition to the lovely red outer and light pink inner flowers, and finally darker colors in the cooler fall months.

OTHER: The Red Flowering Currant is a very ornamental shrub with edible fruit. Ribes sanguineum is native to western North America, & has spicy fragrant foliage. It flowers in clusters of stunning red blooms that attract butterflies & HUMMINGBIRDS.
The fruit is a berry called a currant, & they are about the same size as a blueberries. The berries of the Red Flowering Currant begin a pale blue & mature to a deep purple. Currants can be eaten raw, made into jams & pies, or dried & stored for later use.
These shrubs tolerate a wide variety of soil conditions including sand or clay or drought. They are a good choice for erosion control. The Currant Shrub also provides habitat for woodland creatures, & birds & other small animals will enjoy eating the seeds if you decide to share some. It is an evergreen beauty who can thrive in harsh desert conditions like extreme heat, sun, & drought, BUT it is also extremely cold hardy & will excel in gardens down to Zone 5 as long as it has good drainage. The plants have long skinny grass-like leaves that grow in clumps, but unlike their cousins, the Red Yucca does NOT have spines. The red tubular flowers bloom on tall spikes that are held high above the foliage, & they will attract bees, butterflies, & HUMMINGBIRDS to your garden. The Red Yucca has a very long bloom time, blooming twice in a season in cooler northern climates, & nearly year-round in warmer climates. OTHER: ‘Red Noodle’ is a vining heirloom bean whose pods are actually 1 1/2 feet long, not a yard, but they can grow as much as 1" in a day! While Yard Long Beans have become a popular market variety in the US, the Red variety is not always easy to come by, so is a great selection to grow at home.
The stringless edible pods are crisp & tender, & are best steamed, sautéed, or fried, especially stir fries. The dark red pods will keep their color when cooked, & can add a lot of fun to your dishes. They are popular in Southern Asian & Chinese cuisine. The nutritious beans have a wonderful sweet nutty flavor, & can also be used dried.
This vine is actually considered a subtropical plant, so grows very well in hot & humid areas & isn’t afraid of the sun.
