About the Black Rose - The black rose is actually a hybrid. There are no black roses found in nature, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they are a new creation. They have actually been around since Victorian times. The black rose is sometimes used to symbolize things such as vampires and the occult, but also has many less macabre meanings such as intrigue, mystery, and mourning, symbolizing death, grief, and tragedy. They have been used at funerals as a final farewell for ages.
We have a huge selection of rose seeds available in bush & climbing varieties, as well as some unique species like Beach Rose, Desert Rose, & Swamp Rose!

OTHER: The Dwarf Almond, aka Russian Almond, is native to western Siberia, eastern Europe, & central Asia. This extremely cold-hardy beauty has become a very popular ornamental across the globe, especially in cooler climates. They bloom in early spring before the leaves appear, covering the shrub with masses of rosy red 1/2" fragrant flowers that really stand out in the landscape.
The Dwarf Almond can be planted solo or in groups, & can even be used as a groundcover when spaced close enough together. They are a very dense shrub so can act as a windbreak, & they also provide an excellent hide for birds, rabbits, & other little critters who will love to munch their nutty fruit later in the season. By mid to late summer, the flowers will have given way to the plant's hairy red fruit that measures about 3/4" long. In fall, the leaves turn lovely shades of yellow & orange.
These plants are tolerant of a wide variety of conditions such as sandy soil or heavy clays, drought & moist soils (but not standing water), high winds, & pollution, making it a good choice for urban settings or a 'street tee'. Because of their small stature & cold hardiness, they also make wonderful container plants. Dwarf Almonds are easy to grow, & will grow quickly at a rate of 1 - 2' a year.
Prunus tenella is an ornamental, not an edible almond.
We also have 'Flowering Almond' shrub seeds available in our store with pink double blooms that you won't wanna miss!

OTHER: A Hardy Orange? Yes indeed! And no, this isn’t some newfangled creation – it’s an heirloom species native to parts of China & Korea that has been cultivated for thousands of years. They are valued both for their ornamental value as well as for their edible fruit, & they have traditional medicinal uses too.
These deciduous plants are considered a shrub to a small tree – they take pruning well, so can be allowed to bush out or be trimmed into tree form. The Hardy Orange has glossy dark green leaves during the warmer months, & then provide great fall color in jazzy yellow shades as the weather cools. The fruit will remain on the tree throughout the winter if it is not harvested, providing additional interest through all the seasons. The leaves are fragrant, as are the lovely large 2” showy white spring flowers with pink stamens that will attract bees & butterflies.
The Hardy Orange can grow in a wide variety of conditions. They tolerate heat & drought well, & are not picky about soil type. They are able to grow in heavy clay soils, sandy soil, & nutritionally poor soil ranging from very alkaline to acidic. Part shade is perfectly acceptable for growing these, although the plants will produce more fruit in full sun. Hardy Orange shrubs have thorns, making them deer & rabbit resistant, & also a great choice for a ‘security’ type hedgerow. Of course one of the main thrillers is the extreme cold tolerance of this bad boy! The Hardy Orange is commonly used as rootstock for other citrus plants to help increase their cold hardiness. I will caution you though, the plants are ‘borderline’ hardy in Zone 5. If you are in Zone 5, you will want to protect your shrubs with some extra mulch for the winter & grow them in a sheltered location if possible.
Whether or not the Hardy Orange is technically a citrus or is a citrus relative is debated, but after tasting the fruit, I am siding with the citrus camp. The fruit is somewhat bitter with a taste akin to that of a lemon or a grapefruit. You can enjoy it raw, made into juice or jelly, or in any number of recipes from a chutney to smother chicken or in deserts. The fruits start out green & ripen to a deep yellow color in the fall. Hardy Oranges measure 2 - 2 ½” in diameter, & their skin is covered in a light fuzz. They are high in Vitamin C. Each plant can produce as much as 30 pounds of fruit in a season!
We have a huge variety of fruiting tree seeds available in our store! Swing by & check ‘em out!

They are roughly the same size & shape as an apple, with a diameter of 3”. They have very few seeds, & can be eaten fresh like an apple (with or without the skin) or dried, used in pies, desserts, breads, jams, or smoothies. The fruit contains 25% sugar, & are very sweet & juicy. Japanese Persimmons can be eaten from very firm to very soft. At their softest, the pulp is almost a jelly that can be eaten right out of the skin with a spoon. They have the best taste when they are fully ripe.
Persimmons are also great shade trees, & provide habitat for wildlife. The trees do typically grow to 30' as listed above, but can reach heights of 60’. Trees can grow in part shade, & also tolerate sandy or heavy clay soil. They are very pretty trees with creamy yellow female flowers & pink tinted male flowers. The plants are dioecious, so you will need both a male & female plant to set fruit. The timber has beautiful grain patterns & is used to make high end furniture. The Persimmon’s glossy leaves turn orange, scarlet, & red in the fall, falling off before the fruit leaving an ornamental winter display.
We also have American Persimmon & Italian Persimmon Tree seeds!

OTHER: This Fan Palm is native to Southern Europe & the Western Mediterranean. It is a Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit winner! Chamaerops Humilis has a shrubby clumping habit & stiff evergreen fans that measure up to 2 1/2' wide. The durable leaves of this palm are used for weaving baskets & other things.
The flowers are a lovely buttery yellow, & many small blooms form in clusters to form large upright spikes. The fall fruit of this palm is not eaten by humans, but it is very ornamental! The smooth shiny ovals start out green & turn lovely shades of yellow, orange, & red, & dark red. Mediterranean Fan Palms tolerate drought, humidity, & coastal conditions like salt. They can grow in poor and rocky soils & are used for erosion control. These dwarf palms provide food & habitat for birds & other wildlife, but are deer resistant. The plants are usually dioecious, so you will need both male & female plants if you wish for them to be pollinated. Grow them outdoors year round in zone 8 or higher, in containers, or as a houseplant in cooler climates.
We also have Sabal Palm, Canary Island Date Palm, Pygmy Date Palm, California Fan Palm, & Umbrella Palm seeds available!
