Hōjicha originated in 1920s Kyoto when a tea master experimented by roasting tea leaves over charcoal instead of steaming them.
The result was a unique, flavorful tea.
It’s made from Bancha leaves that are steamed, dried, and then gently roasted, giving it a sweet aroma, reddish color, and low caffeine content—perfect hot or iced and great for all ages.
