First things first — if you’re looking for a soap with a sophisticated scent, this isn’t it. This is pure Pine Tar Shaving Soap — no added fragrance, no coloring, nothing extra. Just soap and pine tar.
It doesn’t smell fancy — after all, it’s tar!
What does it smell like?
If you’ve ever encountered pine resin or something similar, you’ll know. Have you ever:
-
Been aboard a tall wooden ship on a hot day?
-
Rubbed pine tar on a baseball bat handle before stepping up to the plate?
-
Built a flower bed using old railroad ties?
-
Visited the La Brea Tar Pits?
-
Rolled down your car window while driving past freshly paved asphalt?
If so, you know the scent. It’s not a clean, pine-forest freshness — it’s a warm, gritty, earthy aroma that evokes hard work and calloused hands.
What is pine tar?
Pine tar is a natural resin extracted from pine roots by heating or burning them in a low-oxygen environment. While most people today only know it as the sticky stuff baseball players use for grip, its history goes much deeper. It was used to waterproof sailing ships, protect rigging ropes from rot, and even as an antiseptic or treatment for skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea.
Does it actually cure skin conditions? We have no idea — and we’re not claiming it does. But pine tar soap has been made and loved for over a century, and after using it ourselves, we understand why — it’s just plain good. If it worked for Grandpa, it works for us too.
Shave like the old-timers — with Pine Tar Shaving Soap.
